What is an overlay?
A new layer of asphalt is applied to existing asphalt- typically 1
1/2 " to 2" in depth.
When can you drive on new seal coat? Asphalt?
Seal coat dries by ultraviolet rays (sunshine) - typically within
24 hours. Asphalt is applied at 350 degrees and needs time to cool
- this process also takes 24 hours.
How do you lay Asphalt? How Thick?
Asphalt is best applied with an asphalt paving machine. In some situations
asphalt can be placed by hand and raked out. The thicker the layer
of asphalt the more stability it gains.
How do you fix oil spots that have damaged the Asphalt?
Clean the surface immediately to prevent penetration into the asphalt.
Once oils have penetrated and contaminated the asphalt, it will need
to be removed and replaced. A cut and patch process can be done.

Weeds can be sprayed and moss can be treated, but there is no guarantee
that these problems can be permanently remedied.
How long do I have to stay off it after you are done?
On new asphalt, we recommend 12 hours for the asphalt to cool down
and harden. When seal coating, the manufacturer recommends a 24 hour
cure time before opening to traffic. Concrete depends on the additives
in the mix, but typically concrete needs 72 hours to cure.
How long does Asphalt last?
Industry standards and proper design anticipate life expectancy to
be with regular maintenance around 15 to 20 years. In order for the
pavement to provide a 20-year service life, at least one major corrective
can be expected.
Can you pave over concrete?
You can put asphalted pavement over concrete, with the understanding
that reflective cracking may occur.
